South African landscape painter and artist Catherine Paynter was born in 1949 in Johannesburg, South Africa. Catherine is one of the most supremely original talents of our time.

Her eclectic approach to colour and the sublime sets she depicts of still life, landscapes and animals are inspirations drawn from numerous levels of psyche and her own profound travels throughout her native land, South Africa and on to numerous other parts of the African continent. The body of work currently exhibited was influenced by travels further afield to Madagascar, India, Malaysia and Indonesia.

She paints with gouache on cotton canvas, achieving rich glowing tones in delicately superimposed layers of colour; using mica and gold, aerosol and liquid acrylic varnishes. A special collection of her works will be on display and for sale at the Imibala Gallery in Graaff-Reinet
